๐Ÿ“– About C. Y. O'Connor Beach

C.Y. O'Connor Beach is a historically rich stretch of sand in North Coogee, south of Fremantle, extending from McTaggart Cove to Catherine Point. The beach is named after the famed engineer C.Y. O'Connor and features a striking bronze horse-and-rider sculpture standing in the ocean about 30 metres offshore โ€” marking the spot where O'Connor rode into the surf in 1902. The submerged pylons of the old Robb's Jetty Abattoir (built 1870s, demolished 1994) and the hulk of the SS Wyola make it one of Perth's top shore dive sites, while the broad sandy foreshore suits casual swimmers, walkers, and history buffs.
