📖 About Maupertuis Beach
Maupertuis Beach is a remote 1.5-kilometre arc of sand on Kangaroo Island's rugged south-west coast, cradled by the mouth of Rocky River within Flinders Chase National Park. Accessible only on foot via Day 2 of the Kangaroo Island Wilderness Trail, it offers raw Southern Ocean scenery backed by native heathland and the chance to spot Hooded Plovers nesting along the dunes. The bay carries a dark maritime history — it was the site of the 1899 Loch Sloy shipwreck, in which 31 lives were lost.
