West Beach is a sandy urban beach right in the heart of Burnie on Tasmania's north-west coast, just a block from the CBD and connected by boardwalk to the city's famous penguin colony at Parsonage Point. Swimming is best at mid to high tide, though care should be taken around rocks at either end. It's a popular spot for families and open-water swimmers, and the backdrop of grassy dunes and the surf club make it a welcoming community beach.
