Flying Fish Point is a tropical beachside community on the Cassowary Coast, 70 km south-east of Cairns and 7 km north-east of Innisfail, named by explorer George Dalrymple in 1873 after his cutter. Originally a sugarcane settlement, it evolved into a popular holiday destination offering some of the best fishing in North Queensland — including reef, river, and estuary options — with the closest mainland access to the Great Barrier Reef. A beachside tourist park caters to campers and caravanners, while the peaceful sandy beach suits families seeking a low-key tropical getaway.
