📖 About Loch Ard Gorge

Loch Ard Gorge is a dramatic, sheltered inlet within Port Campbell National Park on the Great Ocean Road, just minutes west of the Twelve Apostles. The gorge is named after the clipper ship Loch Ard, which wrecked here in 1878 with only two survivors, and the enclosed sandy beach sits beneath towering limestone cliffs that make it one of Victoria's most photographed coastal landmarks. It's best suited to sightseers and history enthusiasts rather than swimmers, as currents can be unpredictable within the gorge.
