Portsea Back Beach is a dramatic ocean beach at the tip of the Mornington Peninsula, facing Bass Strait with powerful surf, strong rips and a rugged limestone cliff backdrop that sets it apart from the calm bay beaches nearby. It is popular with surfers and bodyboarders — especially on northerly winds — and is patrolled by surf lifesavers on summer weekends and school holidays. The beach is also a favourite with scuba divers who explore its underwater ledges, crevices and blowhole formations, though conditions can be challenging and ocean awareness is essential.
