๐Ÿ“– About Cheviot Beach

Cheviot Beach is a historically significant stretch of coastline within Point Nepean National Park near Portsea, Victoria, named after the SS Cheviot which sank here in 1887 with the loss of 35 lives. It is most famous as the site where Prime Minister Harold Holt disappeared on 17 December 1967 while swimming โ€” his body was never recovered. Swimming is prohibited due to extreme hazards including strong permanent rips and submerged rocks, but a scenic lookout and memorial on Cheviot Hill are accessible via a self-guided walk from Point Nepean.
